your birth partner is a wally…

…if they tell you hypnobirthing isn’t for them. This might sound harsh, but some birth partners don’t have a clue about hypnobirthing or birth in general and why would they? Maybe they think hypnobirthing is too hippy or that you’ve already spent enough on NCT, so why sign up to more classes? Well, it’s their birth too and it matters.

We’ve all seen TV births with partners sat in the corner looking entirely uncomfortable and feeling pretty useless. But it doesn’t have to be like this - birth partners can and should be part of the birth experience, otherwise let’s be real, they won’t be much use to you on the day.

Yes, being responsible for parking the car and bringing in the bags is one thing, but there’s SO much more they can be doing to be helpful and be an important part of the experience.

Hypnobirthing empowers partners with knowledge of what’s going on step by step so they don’t freak out along the way, it gives them clear, practical jobs to be getting on with so they don’t feel like a spare part, and most importantly builds confidence in the process - so that no matter what gets thrown their way, they can advocate confidently for you and your baby. That’s hero level stuff and I promise you’ll feel so bloody proud of them when it happens - I know I did.

And if that’s not enough to get them over the line, my husband will tell anyone who’ll listen that seeing his babies be born was nothing like watching his favourite pub burn down, it was an incredibly profound part of our family story that he’ll never forget. He also now claims to be an expert in birth breathing, but I’ll let him have that.

So when the eye rolling starts, just tell them to stop being a knob and book a class today.
