My first encounter with hypnobirthing was 2020, mid-way through NCT classes with baby one, when a much more clued up couple asked who else was “doing hypnobirthing?”. I can only imagine the blank looks on our faces. “Oh you really should, it’s brilliant.” Umm, ok. Until that point I'm pretty sure my birth strategy had been blindly hoping for the best.
My husband and I went home and promptly downloaded a hypnobirthing course, spending our evenings taking it all in. We were engrossed and the penny started to drop, both of us surprised at how completely logical, rational and not at all woo woo it all was. For these realisations I’m truly grateful and it’s why I’m here today.
We practiced every day and felt as ready as we could be. And when the time came, our daughter’s birth was an overwhelmingly positive and powerful experience. Not without its twists and turns, but made all the better with the knowledge and powerful tools hypnobirthing had given us.
In 2023, I approached my second birth with calm confidence, knowing that whatever came our way, we were ready for it. Little did we know baby two would arrive in a hurry, but despite a very different birth experience, it was just as positive and empowering.
So, while I’m now done having my own babies, this was just the start of hypnobirthing for me. Now I’m here to spread the word and share why hypnopbirthing can help you feel positively about birth, even if you’re starting from a place of not having a clue! Just as I did.
